MRE Fruit Custard
If you have access to either breakfast MRE’s with eggs or have dehydrated eggs from the store, try this. Try it at home before on the trail. Gather native berries you know you can eat and wash them, or use whatever fruit cocktail (in 4 oz can) you might have happened to pack. Off the fire, rehydrate the eggs (aprox 2 handfuls) in the cooking pan with a can (4 oz) of CONDENSED milk, the stuff with sugar in it. It will look somewhat like mucus. You may need to add a little water to moisten all of the eggs. Put the eggs on the fire while stirring repeatedly. Scrape the bottom to make sure it doesn’t burn. When it starts to bubble or steam, take it off the fire to put the fruit in. Put it on the fire again until it is solid. Experiment with the recipe because you might just end up with sweet scrambled eggs with fruit if you aren’t careful.
