Golden rod is a marvelous thing. The plants attract Goldfinches and smell great. That is unless you are allergic to them. Pollens from many things, like Goldenrod, Ragweed and even Trees can set off some people's allergies. Some reactions are strong, even if you are going through an area after the flower has dried. If you are allergic to anything, please take medicine with you when you are out in the wilds. Another precaution is to not burn anything you are not sure about. Pollens and other allergen's can get into the smoke, and irritate your summertime allergies in the dead of winter.

As I was on a walk, I noticed some garbage in a Honeysuckle bush. As I approached to clean it up, I found that it had been made into a nest. Smart little birds to build out of waterproof materials. I left the nest, even though it was empty, because there are many species of birds that keep a nest until they migrate, and yet others who will take over a nest that has been built by others for themselves.
In need of kindling? An old nest is a good firestarter. Make sure there aren't any man made components before you try to light it.
If you are a crafter, or just want to help your feathered neighbors, put pieces of string, medicine bottle cotton, fabric and even hair out by your bird feeder in the spring, and look for the colors thruout the summer and fall. You may be surprised where you find the stuff.
