A find, or two
I went to our local Gander Mountain for a few things the other day and found
a great thing. Fishing line, something I thought was just monofilament, comes
in braided! I bought a reel of 45lb test to put into my pack. Not only can
it be used with the few hooks I have, it can be used to tie off my hair, used
to tie a tent fly, as well
as emergency lacings, though a higher test may be in order. There are many
different brands, but this black braid was what was recommended by the sales
person.

While I was there, I looked around and found myself in the firearm section.
Yes, I have firearms, but I do not use them as much as I might. Because of
this, I have a friend clean them when I think it has been long enough... I
realized at that I did not know how to clean my own firearms. I have, under
supervision, field stripped what I had with me, but never done the maintenance
myself. This is unacceptable.

A wonderful person by the name of Jody came out from behind the counter and
asked if I needed help. He was efficient, knowledgeable and had a sense of
humor that I appreciate. I came away with what I needed, a cleaning kit I
can put into a small bag... and some ammo. I have always been weary of the
rod and bristle, the cotton pads and the goop you use. This system still has
the goop, but the rod has been replaced with a cord that has the bristles
built into it. Very easy. I had to stop myself from over cleaning my rifle...
