Movies are some of the best ways to test worst case scenarios against our character. Or at least some characters in the movie.

A small rant -

Of the recent movies that have been made, the majority of the ones that I like, other than combination movies(Drama-dies and such) have been the Science Fiction or Fantasy movie. Titles such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and even Signs are all considered Science Fiction in today's movie genres. The Comedies that have come out, like the third Austin Powers Movie and the genre spoofs like Scary Movie, are designed for the lowest common denominator of humor, which offends me greatly. Most Action-Adventure movies have just a few lines of plot around explosions and car chases, even good ones like XXX(which I thought kicked ass). Recent Romance movies are thought of as 'chick flicks', and as such are the sort of pabulum that even the Lifetime Movie Network has trouble showing on occasion. The most engaging Dramas recently have been remakes of older movies or the modernizations of Shakespeare plays.
In short, Science Fiction movies seem to have a spirit of imagination that most of the others genres out there do not.

End rant.

I have seen "The Panic Room" for the several times. It is a great movie, has great action and fairly plausible situations. I really recommend seeing it.

Well, "XXX(triple x)" just came out, and I am really hyped. I saw it with my family and when we went out for dinner afterwards, it was the main topic of conversation. Kick Ass. Go see it.

The movie 'Bulletproof Monk' was a wonderful reminder of Hong Kong martial arts films from the 70's. There was lots of humor, lots of action and a really predictable plotline. Who knew that Chow Yun-Fat was such a comedian? I really recommend seeing it. It Kicks Ass!

I saw 'Finding Nemo' for the second time! I love it. It is a pure story driven movie with believable characters(for talking fish) and I kept humming Ani D'Franco's "Little Plastic Castles" to my self on the way home. If you haven't seen it, I hope you go soon, before it is only at a 'kid friendly' movie time.

Note- "Little Plastic Castles" is not a song used in the film, but it is very appropriate.

3-25-04 A girlfriend and I wen to 'Hildago' last night, and I heartily recommend it. Being a date movie, it is full of action, horses, romance, horses, a good plot - did I mention horses? This story based on a real person, was well told, and the costuming would make any fashionista drool. I wouldn't be surprised if the horse they used for the title role was descended from the original Hildago. This would make a great double feature with 'The Last Samurai'.

An older film I love and recomend for the action as well as philosophy is Circle of Iron. It was a movie that Bruce Lee was in preproduction on when he died. Others took up the project and what came out was a good, ageless film.
