12 hours on the road.
That was Saturday. Sunday, we only had about 4 hours on the road...
The trip from Madison to State College, PA was failrly uneventful, but boy
was it long! Sandwitches were made for the trip and we had put gatorade into
the freezer the night before. The sun was coloring the sky at 5.30 when we
pulled out of Madison.
While on the road, I came up with a t-shirt I want made - MAMEbabe. Josh has
created a whole series of concepts to go along with it. For those who you
don’t know, MAME is the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, a way for
the arcade games to survive past the month or so they are popular. I personally
love the incomprehenseable Japanise puzzle games.
Long trips are great for coming up with ideas like that. It is also hard on
the back. We did not switch off as often as we should have. But we have good
supplies of ibuprophen and such along... (better living through chemistry)
Pennsylvania seems to like to put ‘Caution, caution, caution ‘
on all of their flashing alert signs. I guess they want to make sure people
know that something is awry. I like pumpernkicle better... (sorry, had to
do it) There is lots of construction going on. We even passed a by-pass for
a by-pass that was under construction...
The turnpike that we took from Harrisburg has great safty features. Every
milethere is a call box. Every 3/4 mile to 2 miles there is a place to pull
over, some with picknick tables. And there are rest stops with resturants
about every 40 miles. I found it funny that the pull-offs aren’t spaced
to match the phones, and I saw one where there was a pull off, 1/4 mile a
phone, an immediate ramp to a rest stop, a pull-off right after the merged
ramp from the rest stop, then another phone...
We arrived in Newtown Square, and then prmptly got lost. Did you know that
all roads look alike in Pennsylvania? And they do not believe in signs. Or
following the speed laws.
