Rena's top 10 vegas tips:
1 Bring good shoes. Several pairs will be appropriate to switch into over a few day's visit. You will be walking a lot.
2. Duce. I mean it! If you want to get anywhere along the Strip, taking the Duce is the way to go. It costs just $5 for a 24 hour pass.
3. Everything is farther away than you think it is. Really! A block can be 1/2 a mile long.
4. Do not eat at Circus Circus. 'Nuf said.
5. All maps in Las Vegas SUCK! (See #2)
6. Even if you don't smoke, set up your smoking cessation routine BEFORE going to Las Vegas. Even though there is a Nevada Clean Air Act(posted all over the place), you cannot go anywhere without going through clouds of cigarette, pipe and cigar(especially cigar) smoke.
7. At least a week before you go to Vegas, start walking. Anywhere. For hours. Get in shape for the long treks you will be taking, like from the front door of your hotel to your room.
8. If anyone approaches you and asks if you just got into town or if you have plans for the next night, smile, give them a thumbs up and say something to the effect of, "Gary already set me up!" Unless you want to go through a vacation time share presentation.
9. Change your socks whenever you get back to your room. You will have sweated into them to the point of muck in just a few hours. Oh, and change your undies, too. Oh, just go ahead and change your whole outfit. You can do laundry when you get home.
10. The penny slots cost the same at Circus Circus as they do at the Venetian. The Video Poker pays off the same, too. The Venetian has better atmosphere and leggier cocktail waitresses.
11. Unless it is really open 24 hours a day(like the 20 Denny's in Las Vegas), Food opens no earlier than 7 for breakfast and shopping no earlier than 10.30 in the morning. Las Vegas is not really a 24 hour a day place. Really.
12. Do not stay at places with lots of old people. They cannot hear, so all the games are turned up to 11. All the time. All over the hotel.
o.k., so that was more than 10...
